Karla Berber-Urrea | Attorney

Karla is an Arizona native and has built a reputation as an accomplished and professional attorney with a specialization in family law. Driven by her passion to help others through difficult situations, she will stop at nothing short of ensuring her client’s ultimate success. Her personal experience in family court enables her to understand her clients’ situations first-hand. Karla understands her clients’ pain and handles every situation empathetically. Karla is armed with ambition, knowledge, and a strong work ethic.

Committed to her career, Karla graduated from Western International University with honors and later obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Arizona Summit Law School. She was an active member of the Family Law Society, worked closely with Women’s Domestic Violence centers and served clients with limited resources at the family law clinic. 9 years down the line, Karla has gained extensive knowledge and experience in family law that enables her to tackle highly contested custody matters and complex financial issues.

Karla is fluent in Spanish which allows her to bring a common understanding of the intimidating legal process to the Hispanic community. Karla is married and has three children. When she is not busy working on a case, you will find her traveling, spending time with her family, or solving a good jigsaw puzzle.

Kristi Toppin | Certified Paralegal

Kristi grew up in Oceanside, California where she began her legal career working as a file clerk for a personal injury attorney.

In 2002, Kristi moved to Arizona and became a Firm Administrator/Paralegal for a small criminal defense firm that also practiced family law. She remained at this firm for over seven years and then followed her ambition to work for the Attorney General's Office. Kristi became a Paralegal for the Solicitor General's Office which included duties of drafting legal opinions and appellate litigation. In 2015, she became a Certified Legal Document Preparer and founded AZ Legal Documents, LLC. Kristi is passionate in her work; she loves to serve others and is a valuable asset to the firm. Kristi is currently studying to become an Advanced Certified paralegal through NALA

Kristi is married to Darryl, who retired as a Commander from the Navy in 2011. Together, they have three children. In her spare time, Kristi enjoys studying photography, traveling, spending time with her family, and riding along in the golf cart while Darryl golfs.

Marijah Velazquez-Mendoza | Legal Assistant

Marijah was born and raised in Arizona. She is a graduate from Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and is excited to begin graduate school in the fall of 2023 with a focus in Forensic Psychology. In addition to her already impressive resume, Marijah also received her Paralegal Certificate from Phoenix College and her Associate Degree from Gateway Community College and is currently working on becoming a certified paralegal.

Prior to joining Berber Law, Marijah was a legal assistant for a personal injury law firm for many years. She was also a paralegal for a firm with a focus on adoptions. Marijah is fluent in Spanish and enjoys working closely with clients. Marijah takes pride in helping and listening to every client as they walk through the most difficult times of their life. Marijah provides exceptional customer service and Berber Law is fortunate to have her be part of the team.

In her spare time, Marijah enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, hiking, camping, gardening, watching forensic files, documentaries, and cooking shows.
